Saturday, October 28, 2023, we had a chess tournament at a Wiggs Middle School. The boards were placed in the gym and there was pre-k to high school. All the schools were separated in teams. The high schools couldn’t play middle or elementary and the middle schools as well followed the same rules.

The first match had started around nine thirty, and since there were the most middle schoolers the high schools and elementary schools had four matches’ while the middle schools had five.As the first match started people were nervous and it was fun surprisingly, but it was still as tense as ever.As the first match came to a close you could hear people sighing in relief as the exited the gym to go to their parents or trainers. Trainers are the people/person who runs the chess club, for us, Canyon Hills Cobras, its Mr. Lee, who’s also the sixth-grade reading teacher. The next few matches went the same way. Everyone was nervous, but in the beginning for the Cobras, we had a bad losing streak in the first two matches. We had a lot of loses, but as the matches progressed, we had win after win. Rounds 3 and 4 had more than half our team won. In round 5, the final round, most of us didn’t win the final match. It was weird how anxious everyone was, since this was just for fun, and it didn’t affect your tournament score, but this all ended with us Cobras placing 2nd. If you want to join chess club talk to Mr. Lee, its open to all grades in Canyon Hills Middle school and it meets every Monday and ends at 4:00 pm.
